Lluís-Anton Baulenas wins the Ciutat d’Alzira Prize for the Novel

“The 28th Ciutat d’Alzira Prize for the Novel, worth 16,000 euros, has gone to Amics per sempre (Friends for Life) by Lluís-Anton Baulenas, a story about a man who returns to Barcelona just before the ’92 summer Olympics after he has witnessed the horror of the war in Yugoslavia.

As the world turns its back to the conflict, the protagonist’s personal trauma clashes with the city’s temporary euphoria. It is also a protest at the passivity of governments and international institutions towards the Balkans war and, by extension, all wars.

The award winners include Eva Baltasar and Jaume Subirana, in poetry and non-fiction respectively.”
