The Guadalajara FIL celebrates 30 years as the literary capital of Latin America

Mario Vargas Llosa leads the invasion of almost 120 Latin American writers who will be featuring at the next fair.

“Latin America, or at least its literature, is coming to Guadalajara. For nine days, the capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco, the home of tequila and mariachis, will be welcoming the cream of global literature. But for the first time, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Guadalajara International Book Fair is giving Latin American literature top billing.

From 26 November to 4 December Guadalajara will host one of the biggest literary festivals in the world, the most important in the Spanish-speaking sphere. 650 writers will be attending the event and over 800,000 visitors are expected. This Thursday, its ambitious programme was announced. (…)

Headed by the Nobel Prize Mario Vargas Llosa, a group pf 120 Latin American writers will get off to Guadalajara. Among them, there are Leonardo Padura, Alonso Cueto, Sergio Ramírez, Héctor Abad Faciolince, Gioconda Belli, Santiago Roncagliolo, Andrés Neuman and Carlos Wynter Melo.”
