Hay Festival in Segovia writes ‘culture’ with capital letters

The international gathering of arts and literature reveals the eleventh edition agenda

Segovia becomes a party of the mind at the eleventh edition of the Hay Festival, which will be held from 22 to 25 September, 2016. The Festival brings together international voices of literature, art, philosophy and even of economics, to discuss and exchange ideas. "It's about enjoying the culture with all five senses and to enrich the experiences recounted," says Mary Sheila Cremaschi, Director of the meeting.

Writer Santiago Posteguillo will inaugurate the meeting on September 9th with the reading of ‘The Lost Legion’. The Alhóndiga, the Quintanar Palace, the Churches of San Juan de los Caballeros or San Nicolás are some of the 10 venues of the city that will host lectures, concerts, exhibitions and gastronomic samples among over 100 activities that were released this Wednesday.

The festival brings together names like actress Julie Christie, the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flores; Spanish authors such as Julia Navarro, Fernando Savater, Antonio Muñoz Molina, Rosa Montero, Juan Jose Millas or Javier Cercas; Jorge Archduke of Hapsburg; writer and president of the National Gallery Board, Hannah Rothschild; and Secretary of the Académie Française and expert on Russia, Hélène Carrère d'Encausse. "We are living in times of change in all areas and to be able to see the world through the eyes of artists, writers, and architects helps us to understand it better," says Cremaschi.
