It was 2008 when the writer Alberto Cerezuela decided to embark on what at that moment appeared to be a quixotic quest: to revamp the literary panorama in Spain through self-publishing.
He wished to fight a system in which publishers decided whom to publish and the author derived the least benefit from the publishing process, if any at all. Eight years later, Círculo Rojo is the most important self-publishing house in Spain, with more than 7,000 published works and nearly 5,000 writers who have entrusted their creations to the publisher.
