The National Library of Spain and the ISBN Agency sign agreement for the transfer of data

The agreement will involve the development of new downloading systems for that will enable the Library to export bibliographic records of the ISBN Agency, saving time to those responsible for cataloging books, and a considerable cut in the cost of this task.

The ISBN Agency lists the books before the BNE because this task is performed before their release, at the time the publisher requests the ISBN number. Once the books are printed they reach the BNE through the Legal Deposit Act. This agreement is especially important for electronic books. It’s mandatory for the BNE to keep these publications online and this implies the need to catalog tens of thousands of works. With this transfer of data, the NBS will be able to perform the cataloging of these funds.
