Barcelona is back as publishing capital

An international forum of publishers seeks to become the beacon of reference to revive the city as the driving force of the sector in Spain.

70% of the decisions to publish a book and half of the publishing initiatives in Spain are taken from Barcelona, according to part of the sector. But at the same time, the also popular expression mentioning Barcelona as publishing capital , had  been in question since or even before the crisis. In an attempt to put the city in a symbolic forefront of the sector, the Catalan capital will host from today until Friday Edita Barcelona, an annual forum of publishers to be used as reference in Spain and Latin America. The first edition will count with the opening words from President of Grupo Planeta, José Creuheras, and of Richard Charkin, of the International Publishers Association, two bright speakers, who will be heard by more than 200 registered participants.
