Madrid Pays Tribute to Legendary Editor Rafael Martínez Alés

The editor arouses now just as many passionate friendships as when he competed publishing books.

Rafael Martínez Alés (Madrid, 1939) still arouses, now that he is retired from his work as an editor, as many passionate friendships as when he competed publishing books (at Edicusa, the publishing seal of Cuadernos para el Diálogo (Notebooks for Dialog), at Alianza Editorial…). On Thursday, Martínez Alés was honored at the Residencia de Estudiantes, before a huge crowd that was there to pay tribute to this editor who became a legendary defender of books (he was general director of the National Institute of the Book; headed the team that launched the National Library of Santo Domingo; participated in all the battles for freedom of publication, under Franco as well as after.)
