Colombian writer Fernando Soto Aparicio, author of "The Rise of the rats" and "While it rains," among others, died on May 2nd at age 83 of stomach cancer .
Fernando Soto was born on October 11, 1933 in Santa Rosa de Viterbo, in the region of Boyaca, Colombia. Soto dedicated his work of fiction and poetry to reflect in a realistic way the historical and social conflicts in Colombia. Violence, injustice and social inequalities are portrayed in his book, "Rise of the rats," 1962.
