Martín Gaite, a Prize to Honor the Generation of 1950

Ana Martín Gaite, the writer’s sister, sponsors an award that vindicates authors who were savvy enough to “denounce the Franco regime without facing it directly.”

The latest triumph of Ana María Martín Gaite’s 92 years is an award. Thanks to her campaigning, this year will be held the first narrative contest named after Carmen Martín Gaite, her younger sister, the writer who died on July 23rd, 2000, and who will have this summer, on that very date, a writer honored with her prize. The award, which will consist of €3,000 and the publication of the book by Ediciones Turpial, will be given to a work of narrative fiction, written in Spanish, which will have had to be turned in before June 23rd. The verdict will be made known exactly a month later, in an event that will be held at El Boalo (Madrid), the municipality from where the Martín Gaite family hails from, and seat of the Carmen Martín Gaite Foundation, which spearheads the initiative together with the local Town Hall.
