Alfaguara Will Release An Unpublished Novel By Roberto Bolaño.

“El espíritu de la ciencia ficción» (“The Spirit of Science Fiction”), to be released in November, is one of three Bolaño’s previously unpublished books (together with a book of poetry and a short story collection) that will soon see the light of day, along with a reedition of all his previous works.

Up to this point, the Chilean writer’s books were being published by Anagrama. Editorial Alfaguara, who is a part of the Roberto Bolaño, following a deal made with The Wylie Agency, including an unpublished novel. Bolaño’s works were being previously published by Anagrama, the publishing label founded and directed by Jorge Herralde. The deal includes the twenty-one titles published so far, as well as three previously unreleased texts: a novel titled «El espíritu de la ciencia ficción» (“The Spirit of Science Fiction”), to be released in November of this year at the Guadalajara Book Fair; a short story collection; and a poetry collection, which will be released as a part of a volume that will assemble his complete poems. In regard to the unpublished novel, Alfaguara has said that Roberto Bolaño mentioned in several occasions «El espíritu de la ciencia ficción» in his correspondence as early as 1980. The book is dated “Blanes, 1984,” and it is known that it was a project he worked on for several years. It belongs in the same creative period as «Monsieur Pain;» «Los » (“A Morrison Disciple Counsels a Joyce Fan”); the short story «El contorno del ojo» (“The Outline of the Eye”); and «La universidad desconocida» (“The Unknown University”).
