Sonoma Valley welcomes new tiny library

A new “Little Free Library” has popped up in Sonoma and it’s open to everyone. Located just a block and a half from the Sonoma Plaza on West Spain Street, this library is directly across from the First Congregational Church.

It’s a rather small library – built by Woodland Star Charter School fourth grader Kate Llodrá and her grandfather, Arnold Moore, to celebrate and spread literacy in Sonoma Valley.

Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. There are 36,000 small, front-yard book exchanges around the world in 70 countries – from Iceland to Tasmania to Pakistan. This library was inspired after Kate discovered one in the Fryer Creek neighborhood of Sonoma and began to borrow and exchange books there last summer. When she showed it to her grandfather, a savvy woodworker, he suggested they build one of their own. They’ve now joined the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers.
