10 Latin Americans and a Spaniard compete for the Biennial Vargas Llosa Prize

The jury of the Biennial Mario Vargas Llosa Prize has gone through the 255 works sent by publishing houses, agents and writers, and now the list has been reduced to only 11 books. The final decision for this second edition of the $100,000 award, which aspires to become a landmark prize in Spanish literature, will be announced in April.

The jury of the Biennial Mario Vargas Llosa Prize has gone through the 255 works sent by publishing houses, agents and writers, and now the list has been reduced to only 11 books. The final decision for this second edition of the $100,000 award, which aspires to become a landmark prize in Spanish literature, will be announced in April. Among the shortlisted are the Argentineans Samantha Schweblin (Distancia de rescate, “Distance to the Rescue”) and César Aira (El santo, “The Saint”); the Colombians  Juan Gabriel Vásquez (La forma de las ruinas, “The Shape of the Ruins”) and Héctor Abad Faciolince (La oculta, “The Hidden Woman”); and the Mexican Héctor Aguilar Camín (Adiós a los padres, “Goodbye to Parents”).
