The comic book «Heavy 1986» perfectly portrays the day-to-day life of a gang of hard-rock fans in a blue-collar Madrid neighborhood

It is like an episode of the «Cuéntame» series dedicated to blue-collar neighborhoods and to a very particular urban tribe. Because «Heavy 1986» (ed. Sapristi, 17,90 euros) is a comic book by Miguel B. Núñez that tells the story of a group of kids like so many others in those years, with the same worries, the same family troubles, and with the threat of the militia hanging over them like the sword of Damocles… but all inhabited by a single passion: hard rock.

The author knows his subject matter very well, because he personally experienced that same fanatic love for Obús, Barón Rojo, Judas Priest and Metallica. There is, in fact, a soundtrack associated with the comic book. Each episode closes with an explanation about the music to which it alludes. Miguel B. Núñez, author of «El rey huevo» (The Egg King) «El corazón de los árboles» (The Heart of Trees) and «El fuego» (Fire), among other books, started as a collaborator of the «Heavy Rock» and «Thrash Metal» magazines, and has also had experience as a musician in several bands, particularly as a member of the punk duo Humbert Humbert.
