Family of Mexican writer Juan Rulfo preserves his original typewriter.

The Remington Rand KMC was used by Rulfo to type his masterpiece "Pedro Paramo", perhaps the most iconic novel in Mexican literature history.

Rulfo bought it back in 1953, and it is the same model that was commonly used by the U.S. Army during World War II.

Back when Rulfo was 36 years old, he paid 1,000 Mexican Pesos for the typewriter. The money came from a grant created by American writer Margaret Shedd and was financed by the Rockefeller Foundation.

Mrs. Clara Angelina Aparicio Reyes, the widow of Juan Rulfo, keeps the typewriter in good shape in memory of her famous husband.
