"El Día de las Librerías" (Bookstore day), celebrates its fifth anniversary promoting literature in Spain.

Spain celebrated "Bookstore Day" on November 13th as an effort to promote reading habits amongst readers of all ages. This is the fifth year in a row that bookstores offered a 5% discount to customers as an effort to boost sales during difficult economic times.

The publishing industry in Spain has seen signs of recovery, in 2014 book sales accounted for 2,196 Million Euros, which represented a slight growth of 0.6% compared to the previous year.

The Spanish Confederation of Bookstore Unions and Associations (CEGAL) launched this initiative, "El día de las librerías" to promote culture and boost bookstore sales under the slogan "Leer es viajar" (Reading is a journey).

Spanish bookstores across the entire country participated by offering a 5% extra discount and remained opened until 10 pm on November 13th.
