New novel by Chilean writer Isabel Allende releases in English language.

The Chilean-American author’s novel ‘The Japanese Lover’ comes out in English in a few days.

"Since her landmark magical realist novel, “The House of the Spirits,” in 1982, the Chilean-American author has sold 65 million copies of her books around the world. Now, Ms. Allende, 73 years old, is preparing for the English-language release next week of her novel “The Japanese Lover.” It is about a Jewish girl named Alma who escapes from Poland to San Francisco in 1939 and befriends the son of her family’s Japanese gardener. Spare and swift-moving, it shifts from present-day San Francisco to prewar Poland and the Japanese-American internment camps of World War II, unraveling the secret behind the mysterious letters delivered to the elderly Alma’s nursing home."
