Latina Author's Work Selected as Boston’s ‘2015 One City One Story’ winner.

Organizers of Boston’s Book Festival announced that the ‘2015 One City One Story’ selection is “Home Movie” by Boston author Jennifer De Leon. One City One Story is Boston’s version of a city-wide read, developed by the Boston Book Festival. The program's goal, according to Boston Book Festival founder and executive director Deborah Porter, “is to make a short story available to all, free of charge, to spread the joy of reading for pleasure among the teens and adults of our city, and to create a community around a shared reading experience.”.

First published in The Briar Cliff Review in 2012, "Home Movie" is a story told from a semi-omniscient point of view, allowing readers to consider the perspectives of the two main characters, a wife and husband who each struggle with issues of (dis)connection, (mis)communication, and familial values.

Free English and Spanish printed copies of “Home Movie” will be distributed throughout Boston at Boston Public Library branches, bookstores, community organizations, and cultural events beginning in late August. Dunkin' Donuts, a sponsor of the program, makes copies of the story available at many of their Boston-area locations. A full list of locations will be posted at http://bostonbookfest.org/attend/1c1s/. In addition, ebook versions and translations of the story into Russian, Mandarin, and Portuguese may be downloaded for free online.

"Boston is a city with a strong and vibrant literary and cultural tradition, thanks in part to established programs like One City One Story,” says Martin J. Walsh, Mayor of Boston. “One City One Story brings  literature to our residents where they live, work, and play, and it encourages us all to engage not only with a great story, but also with each other. I am pleased to support the efforts of the Boston Book Festival and encourage reading for pleasure among the adults of our city, and I am happy to congratulate Boston native and Boston Public School teacher Jennifer De Leon on having her story selected this year."
