Texas, second U.S. state where Spanish is most spoken.

Border cities such as El Paso and Las Cruces are key for United States to be considered the second country in the world where Spanish is most spoken, according to a Instituto Cervantes report.

According to the report “Spanish, thriving language”, Mexico has 121 million Spanish-language speakers; the U.S. has 52.6 million; Colombia, 48; and Spain has 47 million.

The report also shows that 41 million people have Spanish as native language 11.6 million are bilingual.

 

Additionally, Spanish is the second most popular language in social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
