Former Lectorum executive, translator and author Teresa Mlawer will host “The Spanish books' market in the United States: Where is it heading?”, on Friday. Oct. 3rd at 1:30 p.m. at the Ana María Matute Conference Room. Mlawer is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the non-profit organization CONTEXTOS.

On her masterclass, Mlawer will answer these and other questions about the Spanish books' market in the United States:

• What’s is the situation of Spanish language in the United States nowadays?
• What are they looking for? A Standard Spanish that could be read by the different Hispanic population in the United States or a Spanish with the particular turn of phrases a of the authors, translators and publishers?
• Is there a higher demand for works translated into English or are the works originally written in Spanish considered more interesting?

Teresa Mlawer started her career in the publishing field in 1965. From 1976 until her retirement in 2012, she led the operations of Lectorum Publications, in New York city. She has translated more than 400 children`s and young people`s books from English into Spanish. She is co-author of a collection of reading texts in Spanish for primary schools in the United States, published by McGraw-Hill. Teresa Mlawer is a member of the Board of Directors of CONTEXTOS, a non-profit organization that works hard to improve children`s education in the public schools of El Salvador.
