The publishing industry in Spain, including books, newspapers and magazines, provides one third of the GDP of cultural industries. FGEE's president recalled that publishers are making an effort to adapt to the demands of readers: the average price of books has been reduced by 2.3 percent this year and the already very competitive supply for lawfull access to eBooks.

“The book sector remains the first Spanish culture industry despite the effects of the economic crisis, according to analysis by Comercio del Libro in Spain. The publishing industry had a volume of 2,7 billion euros in 2013, both on the domestic market and overseas market. These figures represent a reduction of 9.7% over the previous year, 291 million less. The sector has accumulated a fall of 19% in the last ten years.”
