Applause echoed off the walls of the Neptune Palace on Tuesday afternoon when Luis García Montero took to the stage to receive the 20th Blanquerna Award from the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa. After an eight-year hiatus, the poet and director of the Cervantes Institute has been recognized for promoting Catalan literature as a poet, critic, and professor, as well as for his commitment to all the literatures of the state through his leadership of the Cervantes Institute, said journalist Àngels Barceló, a member of the jury, as she winked and smiled at the award winner.
