Twenty-five years ago, we left behind what is considered the 'golden age' of children's literature in Spain, the period from the end of the dictatorship to the end of the 20th century.
It was a time of influential authors in our literature and great illustrators who turned those of us born between the 1960s and 1980s into readers.
With the 21st century, now in its first quarter, new formats, new aesthetics, and new voices have emerged, along with countless small publishers that have helped to create this diversity. Illustrated albums are taking center stage and exploring new languages, while youth literature is addressing social issues and gender perspectives more in line with social changes.
Digitization and social media have changed the way we read, and Spanish children and young adult literature has become internationalized over the last 25 years: authors and publishers are winning more and more awards outside our borders, and their works are circulating in translations around the world.
