Mexican writer Gonzalo Celorio wins the 2025 Cervantes Prize

The jury for the Miguel de Cervantes Prize for Literature in the Spanish Language has awarded Gonzalo Celorio the 2025 Cervantes Prize.

Granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the award comes with a prize of €125,000.

The jury's decision was announced by the Spanish Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, accompanied by the Director General of Books, Comics and Reading at the Spanish Ministry of Culture, María José Gálvez, at a ceremony held at the Jorge Semprún Auditorium.

The jury awarded the prize to this author for “his exceptional literary work and intellectual contribution, which has made a profound and sustained contribution to the enrichment of the Spanish language and culture.” In addition, it was noted that "over more than five decades, Gonzalo Celorio has established a literary voice of remarkable elegance and reflective depth, combining critical lucidity with a narrative sensitivity that explores the nuances of identity, sentimental education, and loss.
