‘El Español en el mundo' 2025 yearbook is the most important academic publication by the Instituto Cervantes as it analyzes on a yearly basis the development of the Spanish language and culture around the world.
In this 2025 edition, the yearbook offers updated data in «El español: lengua para el mundo», followed by an article about the Spanish language in the international relations arena. This is followed by a review of Spanish as a heritage language, with special focus on countries such as the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
The next section reflects on Spanish as an expression of democratic values in fields such as clear communication, gender and citizenship issues, the inclusion of people with disabilities, political communication, the media, and artificial intelligence.
