Nicaraguan writer Sergio Ramírez has won the VI Biennial Vargas Llosa Novel Award with his work ‘El caballo dorado’ (Alfaguara, 2024).
The prize, worth $100,000, was awarded on Saturday night at a gala held at the Gran Teatro Cáceres. The president of the jury for the 6th Biennial Vargas Llosa Novel , Juan Manuel Bonet, was responsible for announcing the winning work of this competition, which recognizes the best novel in Spanish published in the last two years, and which he described as a “prodigious literary artifact.”
After receiving the award, Sergio Ramírez expressed his surprise and gratitude for the prize, which he shared with five other great works, and showed his admiration for the figure who gives his name to the competition, Mario Vargas Llosa. Ramírez dedicated the award to all those who, like him, live in exile.
