A jury composed of Giselle Etcheverry Walker, Patricia Córdova Abundis, and Julián Herbert unanimously decided to award the 2025 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize to Uruguayan writer Fernanda Trías for her novel ‘El monte de las furias’.
This is a novel rooted in the Latin American narrative tradition, reconfiguring it through an exceptional female point of view full of discoveries and nuances. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 3, during the 39th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair.
In addition to highlighting its eccentric characters, who are vivid and endearing, the committee of specialists emphasized the rhythm of the poetic language and, at the same time, pointed out that it creates memorable atmospheres and scenes in the work.
"The hermit life of a woman, her stark vision of eroticism, and the irruption of sinister human violence into her world serve as the framework for a story that reconciles female genealogies with the invisibility of work, the ruin of the urban with the longing for the rural world, the joy of solitude with the drive of desire," declared the jury in its decision.
