Álvaro Vargas Llosa opened the first Biennial held in Cáceres, Spain

Yesterday afternoon, at the Gran Teatro in Cáceres, the first edition in Spain of the VI Mario Vargas Llosa Novel Biennial was inaugurated, also being the first since the Nobel Prize winner's death.

The event, which combined literary conversation and a theatrical tribute, served to reaffirm Extremadura as a cultural bridge between Europe and Latin America. The ceremony was presented by Marta Fernández and kicked off four days of activities scheduled in Cáceres, Badajoz, and Trujillo.

Cáceres and Extremadura, connection with America.

Rafael Mateos Pizarro, the mayor of the capital, stressed that ‘Cáceres is culture with solid arguments’ and expressed his gratitude for the choice of the city as the venue for the Biennial on its first arrival in Europe. In his words, he mentioned: Cáceres is a real and solid bridge between Spain and America... our ties are alive and drive us to grow hand in hand. He also linked the event to the Cáceres 2031 goal, stating: 'A stroll through the monumental city is pure poetry; the Helga de Alvear Museum collection is pure inspiration.’
