Review of the book ‘El corsario,’ (Reservoir Books Editorial) by Xus González

‘El corsario’ is the third novel authored by Xus González after ‘Un trabajo limpio.’

‘El corsario’ is the second title in the series led by the ‘mossa d’esquadra’ (female police agent) Silvia Mercado, repeating tension, action and intrigue in a case where the urban landscape and those who inhabit it are much more complex.

It should be noted that it can be read independently because, although the main character is the same, there is no continuity with what was narrated in ‘Un trabajo limpio.’ However, if you want to enjoy it more, it is advisable to read the first title to get some background on the characters and settings.

With a tense beginning, as in ‘Un trabajo limpio,’ which already warns the reader of what is to come, we immediately meet one of the protagonists of the novel: Karim Hassani, a very violent drug trafficker and assailant, a nightmare for his rivals and the security forces, who controls the darkest businesses in the metropolitan area south of Barcelona. With his gang of acolytes, they try to expand their empire and seem to have no limits.
