Pablo Escudero Abenza (Oriol, Tarragona) wins the 29th City of Getafe Crime Novel Award.

The writer Pablo Escudero Abenza has been named the winner of the 29th edition of the City of Getafe International Crime Novel Literary Contest with his work ‘La habitación de las niñas.’

The award, worth €10,000, is organized by the Getafe City Council in collaboration with Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés and Editorial Edaf. The award will be presented during the Getafe Negro International Festival.

The jury was chaired by writer Lorenzo Silva and comprised Maica Rivera, director of the Getafe Negro Festival; Gervasio Posadas and Pita Sopena, director and deputy director of Ámbito Cultural de El Corte Inglés; writer Marcelo Luján; and Esperanza Moreno, editor at EDAF.

The jury affirmed their decision by highlighting that “the strength of the characters and the dialogues crown a story of violence, denunciation, and visibility on the margins of the system. The forgotten struggle to become unforgettable.” The work will hit bookstores in October.
