Extremaduran writer Francisco Serrano has won the 21st Tusquets Novel Prize, worth €18,000, with his work ‘El corazón revolucionario del mundo’.
The winner of the prize, which was announced yesterday, September 18, in Barcelona, was chosen from 366 manuscripts.
The jury was chaired by Antonio Orejudo and included Bárbara Blasco, Eva Cosculluela, Corina Oproae, winner of the previous edition, and Juan Cerezo, representing the publisher. They agreed by majority vote to award the prize to a work they described as 'the hypnotic tale of an anti-capitalist cell in the 1970s; and the story of how, within it, a woman tries to take control of her life.'
They added that Francisco Serrano describes Valeria's place in the world with unusual magnetism, while masterfully suggesting and playing with ellipsis to tell a parallel story of a process of recovering self-esteem, falling in love, and liberation. Without a doubt, a great discovery.
