The Fondo de Cultura Económica in San Diego is donating thousands of books following the closure of its branch in the city.

The Mexican publishing house decided to donate 90,400 copies to institutions and communities in both the United States and Mexico.

Hundreds of books are waiting to be picked up by avid readers following the closure of the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE) branch in San Diego, California

The community was able to access them free of charge at the San Diego County Operations Center on Monday, August 18, and Tuesday, August 19.

Among the recipients are the San Diego County Library, which received 70,000 books for its branches, mobile libraries, and social reentry programs; the American Academy of Pediatrics – Reach Out and Read, which promotes early reading among parents and children and border schools in Tijuana, such as the Love Does school for migrant children; and the Ve'e Tu'un Xava indigenous school, which reinforces Spanish-indigenous language bilingualism. The traveling reading room Juguemos a Leer, which has been touring the region since 2012, will also benefit.
