Review of the book ‘El Conde Duque de Olivares’ by Manuel Rivero Rodríguez

This year, Editorial Polifemo published a work on the distinguished figure for Cuadernos Toresanos, year 2025.

'Political Downfall, Exile, and Death of the Count-Duke of Olivares, in the City of Toro/Kingdom of León'. He was therefore a different kind of character, distinguished and far superior to those around him. Moreover, this was compounded by the fact that he was also convinced of his moral and intellectual superiority.

Consequently, the Count-Duke gradually earned the enmity of the population because of his contemptuous arrogance towards those around him, although he was not the first in his family clan to do so. The Count-Duke of Olivares was named Gaspar de Guzmán y Pimentel Ribera y Velasco de Tovar, and as his surname indicates, he belonged to the powerful Guzmán family in the Kingdom of León.
