Fernando Ballano was born in Utrilla, Soria, in 1956. He has a degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Contemporary History.
His professional career includes teaching in the Bronx, New York, as well as in Madrid. He also worked as an official for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Burundi. His specialization covers various aspects of the African colonies under Spanish rule and the Spanish Civil War.
Among his works are several historical essays, such as ‘Españoles en África (Tombooktu),’ which explores the Spanish presence on the neighboring continent, and ‘Aquel negrito del África tropical,’ which addresses the unique Spanish colonization of Guinea and the living conditions of its inhabitants.
