Asturian writer of universal vocation Xuan Bello, dies at the age of 60

One of the great voices of Asturian literature of this century; his most famous work is ‘Historia Universal de Paniceiros,’ where he built a world from the village where he was born.

Xuan Bello passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60, as reported by the newspaper La Nueva España.  Bello was born in 1965 in the Panicieros village in the department of Tineo.  A narrator and poet, he was one of the greatest names of Asturian literature in this century.  ‘Historia Universal de Panicieros’ 2002, a beautiful collection of small texts, intimate, poetic and reflective, delving between memories and fantasy fables, was the work that gave him the most exposure on the Spanish scene.

In it, he made it clear that, despite starting from his local surroundings, in this case in his small but great language and his small but great village of 42 houses near the mountains, he could connect with universal culture.
