Interview with Ángel Olgoso: We live in a very heterodox world

With a rich and prolific career in the field of fantasy literature, which has earned him both recognition and a large readership, Ángel Olgoso dares to take an unexpected turn in his narrative style.

He ventures into territories where hybridization and melancholic humor intertwine, demonstrating the freedom and mastery of someone who no longer feels the need to prove anything. At this stage of his life, marked by the youthfulness that only years and experience can bring, he decides to “refuse to turn the miracle into a profession,” choosing not to repeat himself or settle for his previous achievements (which he could do, as he has every right to).

In his work ‘Madera de deriva,’ Olgoso offers us a model of free and unrestrained storytelling, where he does not skimp on playing with history and science, as well as cultured and timely quotes, in addition to exploring meta-literary imagination. His moving encounter with a frail old man, Bioy Casares, is particularly touching, as is his evocation of Ribeyro. It is evident that Olgoso has enjoyed the creative process and manages to convey that same joy to the reader.
