The Community of Madrid awards Alfonso Ussía the Culture Prize in Literature for a work that stands out for its defense of freedom.

The Community of Madrid has awarded the 2025 Culture Prize in the Literature category to Alfonso Ussía, a writer and journalist who receives this award in recognition for his work,

which stands out as a defense of the values and principles of freedom, according to information released today by the Governing Council through the Community's Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Sports. This award is one of the decorations with which the regional government distinguishes the work of intellectuals and artists and will be presented at a ceremony to be held next September.

In addition to being a prolific columnist in the Spanish press with his own unmistakable style, Ussía has published more than 40 books, including ‘Coplas, canciones y sonetos para antes de una guerra,’ ‘Fustazos y caricias ,’ ‘Cosas que pasan,’ ‘El temblor diario,’  ‘Tratado de las buenas maneras,’ and the series ‘Memorias del marqués de Sotoancho.’
