With the historical novel we have traveled to all times and all places, we have met great characters such as Hadrian, Averroes and Thomas Cromwell and we have had access to what daily life was like in distant cultures. Hooked into a plot, the historical novel gives us direct access to the worlds of the past.

The historical novel is a genre that was born in the 19th century with Romanticism and has continued to this day. Its objective is to recreate a past era with authenticity and rigor, using real or fictitious characters and events. One of the first works of this type was ‘Ivanhoe’ by Walter Scott, which narrated the legend of Robin Hood. Later came others such as ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ by Victor Hugo and ‘The Three Musketeers’ by Alexandre Dumas. In Spain, Benito Pérez Galdós wrote the ‘Episodios Nacionales,’ a series of novels covering the country's history from the 19th to the 20th century.
