Experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs point out the economic value of Spanish and invite to seek alliances for the development of actions that facilitate the presence of companies in the world.
The Commissioner of Culture and Sports of Andalusia, Patricia del Pozo, and the General Director of Books, Comics and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, María José Gálvez, coincide in highlighting the transforming power of reading.
Spanish, a language spoken by around 600 million people in the world, offers great possibilities for the internationalization of the Spanish publishing business. In the year 2024, exports of Spanish publishing companies amounted to 361.31 million euros, figures that do not include the income of the more than 100 subsidiaries of these companies beyond our borders. These figures show that the book sector has shown a constant commitment to extend its momentum in the rest of the world. How best to take advantage of the opportunities offered by our language and what are the challenges and risks to be faced by those publishers who decide to embark on a path abroad has been the subject of debate at the Publishing 2025 Meeting being held in Jerez de la Frontera.
