Spanish, a language spoken by around 600 million people in the world, offers great possibilities for the internationalization of the Spanish publishing business.
In 2024, exports by publishing houses in Spain amounted to 361.31 million euros, figures that do not include the revenues of the more than 100 subsidiaries of these companies beyond Spain's borders.
These figures show that the Spanish book sector has shown a constant vocation to extend its good momentum to the rest of the world. How best to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Spanish and what are the challenges to be faced by those publishers who decide to embark on a path abroad, have been the subject of debate at the Publishing 2025 Meeting being held in Jerez de la Frontera.
As Francisco Moreno, director of the Instituto Cervantes' Global Observatory of Spanish, explained, the sum of the GDP of Spanish-speaking countries reached 9% in the last year and is expected to increase to 9.9% by the end of the decade.
