The best books of all time are a sure bet for those idle summer hours. From Dracula to Dostoyevsky, from Colette to Jane Austen, the classics are meant to be devoured during the holidays.
There are certain classics that call for summer, that literally make you want to get lost on a not-so-deserted island. Just ask Jules Verne. But to avoid getting carried away by fleeting summer loves, there's the ill-fated Werther, and even the young Dostoyevsky gets romantic in Noches blancas. Although for period romance, we have Jane Austen, and to break the stereotypes about ménages à trois, there's Colette.
For those who aren't afraid of hundreds of pages, nothing beats a Bram Stoker or Bolaño by the pool.
