Carlos de Santos, Publisher, dies at 85

In 1984, he and his wife, psychoanalyst Diana Rabinovich, founded the Manantial imprint, specializing in essays on the social sciences, psychology, humanities, and contemporary philosophy.

This Thursday, in Buenos Aires, economist and editor Carlos de Santos, founder and director of the Manantial imprint for social sciences, humanities, and psychoanalysis, died at the age of 85, according to his family and closest collaborators. Last week, he had been hospitalized at the Argentine Institute of Diagnosis and Treatment; he had cancer. Married to psychoanalyst and essayist Diana Rabinovich, who passed away in 2021, he was the father of two children, Martín and Javier, and had two granddaughters, Carmen and Julia. He was born in Villa María, Córdoba province, on November 19th, 1939.

The Argentine Chamber of Publications (CAP) and the Argentine Chamber of Books (CAL) bid farewell to De Santos, who was highly regarded by his colleagues. He presided over the CAL from 2007 to 2011 and worked on anti-piracy projects and the promotion of the book law (which has yet to be enacted). In a statement released on social media, the CAP defined him as a leading figure in the book industry.
