The Regional Center for Book Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean publishes ‘Navegando lo incierto'

: Usos y percepciones de la IA generativa en el sector editorial iberoamericano’. (Navigating the uncertain: Uses and perceptions of generative AI in the Ibero-American publishing sector).

Cerlalc and the Center for Book Studies and Public Policy of the National University of San Martín (Argentina) have published the report ‘Navegando lo incierto.’ Uses and perceptions of generative AI in the Ibero-American publishing sector, the first research of Ibero-American scope that examines how this technology is being used and perceived by workers in the book ecosystem.

Between October and December 2024, an online survey was conducted with a wide participation: just over 2,000 people filled out the questionnaire. Participants included people working in the different tiers of the book sector chain: editing, writing, translation, illustration, proofreading, marketing, press, distribution, among others.

The research was accompanied by 48 trade and professional organizations, which gives it an unprecedented collaborative nature.

The report shows that the use of generative AI in the publishing sector is still in its infancy: only 50% of respondents have ever used it in their work. However, more than 67% of those who have not yet used it would be willing to do so, and 54% expressed interest in training. This data reveals that there is a willingness to explore its possibilities.
