The Vargas Llosa Chair announced the works selected as pre-finalists for the sixth edition of the Mario Vargas Llosa Biennial Novel Prize, which this year will be held for the first time in Spain.
This award aims to highlight the best novels originally published in Spanish between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. The award is endowed with 100,000 dollars and promotes Spanish-language literature globally. This year's edition has broken the record of participation by receiving 452 novels from 30 countries.
The selected novels are:
- Sara Barquinero (Spain): ‘Los escorpiones’ (Lumen, 2024)
- Andrés Trapiello (Spain): ‘Me piden que regrese’ (Destino, 2024)
- José Carlos Llop (Spain): ‘Si una mañana de verano, un viajero’ (Alfaguara, 2024)
- Sergio Ramírez (Nicaragua): ‘El caballo dorado’ (Alfaguara, 2024)
- Mónica Ojeda (Ecuador): ‘Chamanes eléctricos en la fiesta del sol’ (Random House, 2024)
- Gustavo Faverón (Perú): ‘Minimosca’ (Candaya, 2024)
- Sergio del Molino (Spain): ‘Los alemanes’ (Alfaguara, 2024)
- Antonio Soler (Spain): ‘El día del lobo’ (Espasa, 2024)
- Gioconda Belli (Nicaragua): ‘Un silencio lleno de murmullos’ (Seix Barral, 2024)
- Karla Suárez (Cuba): ‘Objetos perdidos’ (Tusquets México, 2024)
