The three authors were awarded National Prizes by the Ministry of Culture. The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has appointed new members of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Spanish National Library (BNE).
The appointed members are Irene Vallejo, a writer who has been awarded the National Essay Prize in 2020; Manuel Rivas, National Prize for Spanish Letters in 2024 and member of the Royal Galician Academy, and Juan Mayorga, playwright who received the 2013 National Prize for Dramatic Literature and the 2007 National Theater Prize.
As established in the Statute of the BNE, the Royal Board of Trustees is made up of a minimum of seventeen members and a maximum of thirty, eleven of whom are ex officio members.
The rest of the members have the status of appointees and are appointed and separated by the head of the Ministry of Culture - to whom, according to the Statute, the presidency of the BNE corresponds in accordance with Law 1/2015, of 24 March - from among people of recognized prestige or competence in the field of culture, scientific research and economics or who have distinguished themselves by their collaboration with or support for the Biblioteca Nacional de España, taking into account the principle of a balanced presence of women and men.
