Cultura supports the New York Book Fair to promote the visibility of Spanish and independent publishers, amidst current political challenges in the United States.
The Ministry of Culture joins the New York Book Fair (FILNYC) to achieve an internationalization of books in Spanish, which have suffered an exponential growth in its export to the United States in recent years, according to the general director of Books, Comics and Reading, María José Gálvez Salvador.
Spanish as a language must be present in those spaces, in privileged spaces, in decision-making spaces and where certain dialogues are generated,“ stated the general director of FILNYC, Dejanira Alvarez Cárdenas, to later assure that this fair is a project “en Español.
Thus, the New York book fair, which depends directly on the University of New York and which this October will be in its 7th edition, is the only literary event of its kind in the city. It is an international fair and is one of the few events in the city where most of its content is 100% in Spanish, Alvarez added.
