Barcelona pays tribute to Mercè Rodoreda with a garden and a museum at the IEC

This Thursday, at the headquarters of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC) in Barcelona, a garden and a museum space dedicated to the writer Mercè Rodoreda have been inaugurated.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, who said that these new spaces are an "act of justice and recognition".

At the event, Urtasun recalled how Rodoreda spoke "of everyday life, the fragility of existence and the strength of hope", with a sensitivity that transcends languages and borders.

The minister thanked all the institutions for their collaboration and stated that Rodoreda is a universal author "in the most literal sense", because her work has been translated into more than 30 languages and because it speaks of the human condition.
