Luis Alberto de Cuenca, XXXIV Queen Sofia Award for Ibero-American Poetry

Luis Alberto de Cuenca has won the XXXIV Queen Sofia Prize for Ibero-American Poetry, jointly organized by Patrimonio Nacional and the University of Salamanca since 1992.

The jury has awarded the literary career of De Cuenca for “showing a deep literary erudition and a style that moves between philosophical reflection, exploration of classical culture and personal introspection”. Upon learning of the decision, the writer has shown great joy, as he feels that this award “is the culmination of his work as a poet” and for “the deep personal admiration he feels for Queen Sofia”.

The manager of Patrimonio Nacional, María Dolores Menéndez Company, announced the majority decision of the jury. Of the winner, she highlighted “the clear and precise style of his poetry, which has a critical look at the literary tradition and an often ironic or melancholic tone.
