A biography is a book that someone writes about the life of another person. It can be told in chronological order, highlighting the most significant events.

Normally, the book in question tends to focus on the subject's area of expertise. For example, if the subject is a writer, then his or her biography will be oriented to tell the story of his or her journey through literature.

Biography is also a literary genre, situated between the “memoiristic” volumes, the historical ones, and, in turn, the essayistic ones. This niche has its origins in Plutarch's Parallel Lives and the various De viris illustribus. In the Middle Ages, the lives of saints became famous.
