Cristina Alfonso, Nerea Pérez, and José Luis Maestro receive the 2024 Lazarillo Awards in Pontevedra

The children and young adult literature awards choose the Book Fair for the first presentation ceremony outside of Madrid and Barcelona.

The works "Quiero un dragón" by Cristina Alfonso Ibáñez, in the literary creation category, and "Tres eran tres" by Nerea Pérez and José Luis Maestro, in the illustrated album category, were presented this Wednesday at the Pontevedra Children and Young Adult Literature Fair, as the 64th Lazarillo Awards. These awards, the oldest in Spain in the field of children and young adult literature (CHILDREN and YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE), were presented this year for the first time outside of Madrid and Barcelona.

"I encourage you, if you have a story inside you, to bring it forward," said Madrid native Cristina Alfonso upon receiving her award. The world needs good stories, she added, while recalling that the Lazarillo family's career for more than half a century has been based precisely on rewarding good stories. Nerea Pérez, also from Madrid, echoed this sentiment, remembering those who value this profession with dedication and love. She received the award alongside José Luis Maestro from Cádiz, who recited a Persian poem.
