The writer has died in Girona at the age of 70, according to a statement from his literary agency this Sunday. The Barcelona writer leaves behind a great literary legacy after a career as a novelist and short story writer that began in the 1970s and that has been recognized with several awards, including the Herralde in 1990 for La historia del silencio, and the Nadal in 2005 for Un encargo difícil.
In Barcelona he was known for his active participation in cultural life, for example, by running the Café Salambó, named after a Flaubert novel, which he founded, in post-Olympic times, with the writer Francisco Gracia and the famous literary agent Carmen Balcells. An iconic place in the Gràcia neighborhood, next to the Verdi cinemas, a regular refuge for literary scholars, film buffs and billiard players, where he created a literary prize with the same name.
He was a contributor to the Catalan edition of EL PAÍS.
